Friday Five: Signs of Spring, Signs of Hope

7 March 2008

What have you seen/ heard this week that was a :

1. Sign of hope?
Ideas for papers to submit to various and sundry grad programs; since I’m thinking about applying to English Lit, Comp. Lit, Creative Writing, Philosophy, and even a Theology program, I’m going to have to churn out a couple of papers.

2. An unexpected word of light in a dark place?
That Steve Stone is going to be in the White Sox radio booth this year.  Just kidding.  Seriously?  The sense that my students are straightening out some with the end of the Third Quarter.

3. A sign of spring?
The realization that we could bake cookies for the Africa Bake Auction and watch a Spring Training game on Saturday afternoon before I go off to a bachelor’s dinner.

4. Challenging/ surprising?
Thankfully, not much challenging has happened this week.  Maybe the attack on the Mercaz HaTorah students; that was challenging.

5. Share a hope for the coming week/month/year….
Week: That the fourth quarter in the high school get off on a good note.  Month: That we make the right decision about moving.  Year: That I get all my apps. in with minimal hassle and get into a kickin’ program.

Bonus play… a piece of music/ poem guaranteed to cheer you?
Oh, Dvorak’s Ninth.  Every time.

  1. #3 is a great example of healthy multi-tasking (if baseball watching can be called a “task”). Good luck with the essays!
