On July 4th

3 July 2007

I’m thinking I’m going to fast.  Although it’s a festive day, I’m not proud of my country, especially my government, right now.

I’m going to fast until the BBQ we’re having.  I’m not a spoil sport, and I’m not going to bring it up at the BBQ, but I’m going to fast on Wednesday, and anybody who cares to can join me, but don’t feel as if you need to.

I’ll also pray the Office of the Dead for those who have died due to my country’s recent actions, either directly or indirectly, whether friend or foe.

If you’ll see me at the BBQ, I ask you not to bring it up.  I’m not doing this for publicity, or for notoriety, or anything of the sort.   But I am posting this so that if you think that the 4th of July, while a time for festivity, is also a time for reflection, prayer, and, yes, penitence, you might realize you are not alone.
