Feast: The Visitation

31 May 2007

463.jpgFather in heaven, by your grace the virgin mother of your incarnate Son was blessed in bearing him, but still more blessed in keeping your word: Grant us who honor the exaltation of her lowliness to follow the example of her devotion to your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

-The Book of Common Prayer

I must admit I love this feast. It’s so Incarnational. The young (by all accounts, really young: like 14 years old young) Virgin Mary schleps across Judea to help her elderly cousin Elizabeth in her last month of pregnancy.

The Annunciation happens barely 2 months ago, and already the Incarnate Word is transforming our actions, making Mary capable of amazing acts of kindness and generosity.
