Feast: Nicholas of Myra

6 December 2006

saintnicholas-life.jpgHere it is: the source of the Sa(i)nt[a] (Ni)C(ho)la[u]s legend. Nicholas of Myra, a very popular saint in Eastern Christianity is possibly more popular in the West, just not as he was, and instead in the bizarre incarnation of an obese, elf-employing, reindeer-powered air-sleigh-driving, crimson-clad, trespasser who also happens to be a reverse kleptomaniac, leaving presents in people’s houses, not on his day (the 6th) but quite presumptiously on the agreed-upon day to celebrate the birth of the Lord.

Let us remember and praise Nicholas. The Eastern one, not the Western.

LutherPunk has some great St. Nicholas’ day resources here.
