Feast: Andrew the First-Called, Apostle

30 November 2006

standrew.jpgOne of my favorite takes on this apostle, first-called and founder of the church at Byzantium, is from Don Jim’s sermon on St. Andrew the Unappreciated.  The gist is that Andrew, although the first-called, has his feast day come at either the very end or very beginning of the church year, and as such is often overlooked.  What does this mean for us?  Click the link and find out.

As the first-called Apostle and brother of their leader
entreat the Master of all to grant peace to the world, O Andrew,
and great mercy to our souls.

-Troparion of Saint Andrew, Tone 4
